We are excited to share the details of our recent dewatering project at the Sengulam tank on Combai Road in Theni district. This initiative was launched in response to the concerns of Lakshmipuram panchayat residents, who submitted a memorandum to Theni Collector R.V. Shajeevana, highlighting the health hazards posed by invasive water lettuce.
Harnessing the Power of 100 HP Diesel Dewatering Pumps
At the heart of our dewatering effort was the deployment of two powerful 100 HP diesel dewatering pumps, which operated continuously for nearly a month. These pumps played a critical role in extracting an impressive 15 crore litres of water from the 40-acre tank, laying the groundwork for the subsequent manual removal of nearly 4,000 truckloads of invasive plants. The relentless operation of these pumps was a testament to the dedication and commitment of our team, showcasing the efficacy of 100 HP diesel dewatering pumps in large-scale environmental projects.
Key Highlights of the Sengulam Tank Dewatering Project
- Massive Workforce Deployment: The project saw the involvement of 50 workers, who worked tirelessly alongside heavy-duty machinery and motors. Their efforts were crucial in managing the scale of the dewatering task.
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Support: The project received significant funding from corporate houses in Theni district under CSR initiatives. Notable contributions came from ACV Mills (P) Limited, LS Mills, Raj Shree Sugars, and other local companies, reflecting the community's collective commitment to environmental conservation.
- Advanced Machinery from Kerala: To aid in the manual removal of water lettuce, an imported machine from Kerala was utilized. This technology, combined with the strength of the 100 HP diesel dewatering pumps, ensured the project's success.
- Community Involvement: The project was marked by the active involvement of local villagers, who provided free food, water, and shelter to the workforce. This sense of community support played a vital role in the project's smooth execution.
Impact and Future Prospects
The successful completion of this Herculean task has not only resolved a critical health issue for the residents of Theni district but also set the stage for future development. Plans are underway to transform the Sengulam tank into a tourist spot, with proposals for a 1.5-km walkway and solar lamps around the tank's periphery, supported by the Namakku Naame scheme.
This project highlights the potential of 100 HP diesel dewatering pumps in achieving large-scale environmental goals and sets a benchmark in community-driven environmental conservation.
